What ship!?! - Teutonia, Europa, America? – No idea!

Anyway, we have no choice but to stay.
Don't worry, we are heading nowhere,
and the icebergs are melting.
Fortunately, I am not in control.
I am just a member of the band still playing on...
A toast to the Americans and Germans in the first class
and ship ahoy! to the rest of the world.

in candle-light lectures of a most entertaining kind.

personal background - composing and performing

Juergen Matthias Schroeder was born in 1955 in Heinsberg near Aachen. He developed an early interest in international culture and friendship across borders and speaks several languages. He is married and has 3 children.

The self-taught musician uses the piano, guitar, and his voice. He has composed ballads etc. on a great variety of subjects, with a special interest in social issues and has written scripts & songs for theatre sketches.

He has performed at numerous musical,
cultural & beneficial events on a regional level
and has presented literary & musical
programmes at various institutes of education.
He was an extra in the Italian opera
L’incoronazione di Poppea' by Monteverdi,
at Ruhrfestspielhaus Recklinghausen 2000.

2000: nominated for the International Concert >> A Song For Peace Rome.

1991: award winner (North-Rhine Westfalia) for theatre play on the Titanic theme.
2003: among the award winners of "Wir stehen auf Toleranz", a contest organised by the German trade union IGBCE. >> Toleranz - song, music video .

professional activities:

include academic work at RWTH university, Aachen, publications & lectures in the field of sports science, teaching at Grammar schools, presentations “English poetry set to music” in further teacher training (Regierungsbezirk Muenster). He works as a college teacher.
